White River Golden Retriever Club is a group of Golden Retriever enthusiasts coming together due to our common interests. Based out of Indianapolis, Indiana, WRGRC was founded in 1970. Since then, we have become a member club of the Golden Retriever Club of America and are AKC licensed club serving the greater Indiana area. WRGRC puts on specialty shows, Working Certificate/Working Certificate Excellent tests, agility trials, and tracking tests.

We put on a conformation and obedience specialty once a year (typically May) and hold a WC/WCX once a year, most often in October. We also hold a TDX (tracking dog-excellent) trial each November, and fun is had by all! Throughout the year, WRGRC provides seminars in field, tracking, and agility. Furthermore, our spring, summer, and fall meetings are held with an activity in mind such as swimming with our dogs, fun field days, and the famous Veteran’s Day celebration.

Use the menu to the left to navigate throughout our web-site. To learn more about the WRGRC, our board, puppy referral, use the “About WRGRC” link. “Events and Meetings” contains past and future functions, some pictures from these functions, and upcoming club meetings and locations. Manuscripts authored by club members or articles that WRGRC has permission to reproduce can be found in “Articles and Information,” which also contains GRCA breed standard and event rules. If you are a club member, feel free to use the tools and directories available in the “Members Access,” including a newsletter archive. If you want to learn more about the club, “off-line”, please print off our WRGRC club brochure¬†which is chocked full of information about our club!

WRGRC History

WRGRC began in the summer of 1970. A group of people who had belonged to the Indiana Chapter of GRCA (later becoming inactive) joined together and held an election of officers and board members for the new “White River Golden Retriever Club”. The club started to have monthly meetings and came up with their name early in 1971. Our first Annual Awards banquet was held in February, 1972. We managed to put on the required matches and activities to become AKC and GRCA recognized within a very short time. We hosted our first GRCA Central Region Specialty in 1975. We began to hold licensed specialty shows in the mid-70’s, as part of the Associated Specialty Clubs based around Indianapolis. We did this for a few years but then felt we could handle putting on independent specialties and have never looked back. We have also hosted Central Region Specialties in 1981, 1990, 2000 and 2004. Our biggest event was hosting the GRCA National Specialty in 1979, back when it was only 5 days long!

We continue to be a very active club with monthly meetings. About half of these are outdoors and we bring our dogs. We have various activities or programs planned and have great pitch-in meals! Other activities are an annual WC/WCX test, awards banquet, several indoor winter meetings with special programs, and our specialty show has turned into back-to-back specialties in May. We have around 100 members, with a core group of active members closer to 40.
